Margarit Zhekov

Short bio­graphy: Mar­gar­it Zhekov was born in 1963 in Haskovo, Bul­garia. A Uni­ver­sity of Sofia gradu­ate in Ger­man Lan­guage and Lit­er­at­ure, has spe­cial­ized in Theo­logy in Ger­many. Author of eight poetry col­lec­tions in Bul­gari­an: Spelling Beauty (Hr. G. Dan­ov Pub­lish­ing, Plov­div, 1990), Talk­ing to My Heart (Lit­er­at­uren For­um Pub­lish­ing, Sofia, 1992), Heav­enly Life (Lit­er­at­uren For­um Pub­lish­ing, Sofia, 1993), Bio­graph­ic­al Meta­phors (Lit­er­at­uren For­um Pub­lish­ing, Sofia, 1997), Natures (Lit­er­at­uren For­um Pub­lish­ing, Sofia, 2010), The Invis­ble Bar­ri­ers (Ergo Pub­lish­ing, 2011), Com­mu­nions (Lit­er­at­uren For­um Pub­lish­ing, Sofia, 2012) and Doomed Seas (Lit­er­at­uren For­um Pub­lish­ing, Sofia, 2013), as well as of the book Draw­ing Cool­ness – Bib­lic­al Motives in European Poets (Ogledalo Pub­lish­ing, Sofia, 2012). His poetry col­lec­tion Reflex­ion (2011) has been pub­lished in Span­ish by IMS Pub­lish­ing Asso­ci­ation in the USA. He trans­lates from and into Ger­man and Eng­lish, as well as from Span­ish, Swedish and Hun­gari­an. Mem­ber of Asso­ci­ation of Bul­gari­an Writers (since 1993), Europe Lit­er­ary Circle – Kapfen­berg, Aus­tria (since 2000), Bul­gari­an Trans­lat­ors’ Uni­on (since 2006) and Bul­gari­an P.E.N. Cen­ter (since 2013).

Lilia Ratcheva-Stratieva

Field of work: Trans­la­tion of fic­tion; The­ory, his­tory and cri­ti­cisms of trans­la­tion

Short bio­graphy: Lilia Ratcheva-Stratieva is the author of four fic­tion books for chil­dren.  An expert on children’s lit­er­at­ure, she has pub­lished more than 100 art­icles in this field in magazines, news­pa­pers and books in Bul­gari­an, Eng­lish, French, Ger­man, Pol­ish, Chinese, Hun­gari­an and oth­er lan­guages.

She has served twice (1996, 1998) as mem­ber of the Inter­na­tion­al Jury for the Hans Chris­ti­an Ander­sen Award (the fore­most award for children’s lit­er­at­ure in the world) – the only Bul­gari­an to have been an Ander­sen jury mem­ber to date.

In 1987 and 1990 she was mem­ber, and in 1998 and 2000 Pres­id­ent of the Inter­na­tion­al Jury for the Janusz Kor­czak Award, Warsaw, Poland. For four years (2001 – 2004) she was co-editor (in a team of four edit­ors) of Book­bird, the journ­al on inter­na­tion­al children’s lit­er­at­ure.

She has worked in pub­lish­ing with respons­ib­il­it­ies mainly for children’s lit­er­at­ure. From 1979 to 1991 she was the presenter of a TV pro­gramme on children’s lit­er­at­ure, entitled “In the world of books”.

Since 2000 Lilia Ratcheva-Stratieva has been work­ing with European edu­ca­tion­al pro­jects based on lit­er­at­ure for chil­dren.

Krasimir Kavaldjiev

Short bio­graphy: Krassimir Kavaldjiev was born in 1969 in Sliven. He gradu­ated from For­eign Lan­guages High School in his homet­own in 1988 and from Sofia Uni­ver­sity “St. Kli­ment Ohrid­ski” in French lit­er­at­ure and cul­tur­al stud­ies in 1995. He was an expert in Inter­na­tion­al Cul­tur­al Cooper­a­tion dir­ect­or­ate at the Min­istry of Cul­ture between 1995 and 2000. He spe­cial­ized man­age­ment of cul­tur­al insti­tu­tions and com­par­at­ive lit­er­at­ure in Par­is between 1999 and 2002. He worked as a trans­lat­or in vari­ous European insti­tu­tions in Brus­sels between 2009 and 2013. He has trans­lated more than thirty books from and into French. He is a mem­ber of Bul­gari­an Trans­lat­ors’ Uni­on, the Asso­ci­ation of Bel­gian Fic­tion Trans­lat­ors and the Bel­gian Fran­co­phone PEN Cen­ter.
