In the past year the Bul\u00adgari\u00adan Trans\u00adlat\u00adors\u2019 Uni\u00adon<\/a><\/span> has dealt with a num\u00adber of cases of trans\u00adla\u00adtion pla\u00adgi\u00adar\u00adism.<\/p>\n

Last March Prof. Ana Dimova, lit\u00ader\u00adary trans\u00adlat\u00ador and BTU<\/span> mem\u00adber, pub\u00adlished an art\u00adicle entitled The (Un)known Joseph Roth: Trans\u00adla\u00adtion or Tran\u00adscript <\/em>in the renowned lit\u00ader\u00adary<\/a> news\u00adpa\u00adper Lit\u00ader\u00adat\u00aduren Vest\u00adnik<\/a><\/span>. <\/em>In the art\u00adicle she com\u00adpared a recent trans\u00adla\u00adtion of Joseph Roth\u2019s stor\u00adies into Bul\u00adgari\u00adan by Vladko Murdarov (\u201e\u041b\u0435\u0433\u0435\u043d\u0434\u0430 \u0437\u0430 \u043f\u0438\u044f\u043d\u0438\u0446\u0430\u0442\u0430 \u0441\u0432\u0435\u0442\u0435\u0446\u201c, Black Flamingo, 2015) with her own trans\u00adla\u00adtion of the same stor\u00adies of thirty years pre\u00advi\u00adously (\u201e\u0413\u0440\u043e\u0431\u043d\u0438\u0446\u0430\u0442\u0430 \u043d\u0430 \u043a\u0430\u043f\u0443\u0446\u0438\u043d\u0438\u0442\u0435\u201c. \u0418\u0437\u0431\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0438 \u0442\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0431\u0438. \u041d\u0430\u0440\u043e\u0434\u043d\u0430 \u043a\u0443\u043b\u0442\u0443\u0440\u0430, 1986) and found the dif\u00adfer\u00adences min\u00adim\u00adal. Ger\u00adgana Fyrkova-Angelova, PhD, schol\u00adar and lit\u00ader\u00adary trans\u00adlat\u00ador her\u00adself, ana\u00adlysed the two Bul\u00adgari\u00adan ver\u00adsions of the same works (namely Der Vorzugssch\u00fcler<\/em>, Kar\u00adri\u00adere<\/em>, Kranke Mensch\u00adheit<\/em>, April. Die Geschichte ein\u00ader Liebe<\/em>, Der blinde Spiegel<\/em>, <\/em>Sta\u00adtion\u00adschef Fallmeray\u00ader<\/em>, Tri\u00adumph der Sch\u00f6n\u00adheit<\/em>, Die B\u00fcste des Kais\u00aders<\/em>, Der Leviath\u00adan<\/em>, <\/em>Die Legende vom hei\u00adli\u00adgen Trink\u00ader<\/em>) in detail, tak\u00ading into account the spe\u00adcif\u00adics of the ori\u00adgin\u00adal texts and con\u00adcluded that in their oth\u00ader trans\u00adla\u00adtion work the two trans\u00adlat\u00adors have their own, very dif\u00adfer\u00adent approaches, that Vladko Murdarov used Ana Dimova\u2019s trans\u00adla\u00adtion, mak\u00ading insig\u00adni\u00adfic\u00adant cor\u00adrec\u00adtions to it and that, in short, his trans\u00adla\u00adtion can\u00adnot be con\u00adsidered an autonom\u00adous work. On the basis of Fyrkova-Angelova\u2019s expert opin\u00adion<\/a>, BTU<\/span> pub\u00adlished an offi\u00adcial state\u00adment<\/a> claim\u00ading that Ana Dimova\u2019s trans\u00adla\u00adtion had been bor\u00adrowed from dir\u00adectly by Vladko Murdarov, and con\u00addemned the unlaw\u00adful deed.<\/p>\n

Sev\u00ader\u00adal months later, the Pro\u00adfes\u00adsion\u00adal Eth\u00adics Com\u00admit\u00adtee received anoth\u00ader notice of pla\u00adgi\u00adar\u00adism: this time it was about the trans\u00adla\u00adtion of a col\u00adlec\u00adtion of stor\u00adies by Arthur Schnitz\u00adler (\u201e\u041a\u0430\u0442\u043e \u043d\u0430\u0441\u044a\u043d\u201c, Black Flamingo, 2012) by Vladko Murdarov. The ana\u00adlyt\u00adic\u00adal expert\u00adise of Ger\u00adgana Fyrkova-Angelova<\/a> con\u00adcluded once again that Murdarov had delib\u00ader\u00adatedly used pre\u00advi\u00adous trans\u00adla\u00adtions of the same ori\u00adgin\u00adal texts (Fr\u00e4ulein Else<\/em>, Spiel im Mor\u00adgen\u00adgrauen, Traum\u00adnov\u00adelle<\/em>), trans\u00adlated respect\u00adively by Nikola Tol\u00adchev, Panayot K. Chilkov and Nedyalka Pop\u00adova, mak\u00ading min\u00adim\u00adal changes, not related to exist\u00ading mis\u00adtakes. BTU<\/span> pub\u00adlished anoth\u00ader offi\u00adcial state\u00adment<\/a> defend\u00ading the copy\u00adright of the trans\u00adlat\u00adors whose work had been stolen and drew atten\u00adtion to the fact that a second trans\u00adla\u00adtion of Schnitzler\u2019s stor\u00adies was pub\u00adlished in Bul\u00adgaria not because of defi\u00adcien\u00adcies in the first one but because of the fin\u00adan\u00adcial sup\u00adport by for\u00adeign cul\u00adtur\u00adal insti\u00adtu\u00adtions.<\/p>\n

Finally, Kon\u00adstantin Iliev, a dis\u00adtin\u00adguished Bul\u00adgari\u00adan play\u00adwright, author and trans\u00adlat\u00ador, wrote a let\u00adter<\/a> to inform BTU<\/span> that his trans\u00adla\u00adtion of Die Klein\u00adb\u00fcr\u00adger\u00adhochzeit<\/em> (\u201e\u0418\u0437\u0431\u0440\u0430\u043d\u0438 \u0442\u0432\u043e\u0440\u0431\u0438 \u043d\u0430 \u0411\u0435\u0440\u0442\u043e\u043b\u0442 \u0411\u0440\u0435\u0445\u0442\u201c, \u0442. \u0406\u0406\u0406, \u041d\u0430\u0440\u043e\u0434\u043d\u0430 \u043a\u0443\u043b\u0442\u0443\u0440\u0430, 1985) had been pla\u00adgi\u00adar\u00adised once again by Vladko Murdarov (\u201e\u0415\u0434\u043d\u043e\u0430\u043a\u0442\u043d\u0438 \u0438 \u043f\u0438\u0435\u0441\u0438 \u0443\u0440\u043e\u0446\u0438\u201c, \u0420\u0438\u0432\u0430, 2009). Iliev him\u00adself gave repeated and irre\u00adfut\u00adable proof of the deed. BTU<\/span> con\u00addemned<\/a> the unlaw\u00adful prac\u00adtice of trans\u00adla\u00adtion pla\u00adgi\u00adar\u00adism and declared its resolve to con\u00adtin\u00adue defend\u00ading trans\u00adlat\u00adors\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n
