She holds a&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">BA<\/span> in Eng\u00adlish from <span class=\"caps\">UCLA<\/span> with a&nbsp;track in Cre\u00adat\u00adive Writ\u00ading \u2013 Fic\u00adtion, and a&nbsp;Master\u2019s degree in European Stud\u00adies from the Uni\u00adver\u00adsity of Ams\u00adter\u00addam with a&nbsp;track in European cul\u00adture and his\u00adtory.<\/p>\n<p>She trans\u00adlated <em>The Love Machine, <\/em>a&nbsp;nov\u00adel by Amer\u00adic\u00adan author Jaqueline Susann (Colibri, Bul\u00adgaria, 1992) while still a&nbsp;stu\u00addent at the Eng\u00adlish Lan\u00adguage School in Sofia. That same year, Velina trans\u00adlated from Eng\u00adlish to Bul\u00adgari\u00adan the film script of the Nor\u00adweigan entry in the Inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal Tele\u00advi\u00adsion Fest\u00adiv\u00adal <em>Zlat\u00adnata rakla <\/em>(Plov\u00addiv, Bul\u00adgaria) which won first prize in the youth <span class=\"caps\">TV<\/span> film sec\u00adtion and was broad\u00adcast on Bul\u00adgari\u00adan Nation\u00adal Tele\u00advi\u00adsion. In 1993, she trans\u00adlated into Eng\u00adlish a&nbsp;radio drama by aspir\u00ading Bul\u00adgari\u00adan play\u00adwright Pla\u00admen Sta\u00admen\u00adov, which won the Brit\u00adish Council\u2019s Inter\u00adna\u00adtion\u00adal Play\u00adwrit\u00ading Com\u00adpet\u00adi\u00adtion and was broad\u00adcast on the <span class=\"caps\">BBC<\/span> World Ser\u00advice. Later that year, Velina trans\u00adlated <em>Jacintha, <\/em>a&nbsp;nov\u00adel by Brit\u00adish author Kath\u00adleen Win\u00adsor (Bard, Bul\u00adgaria, 1993.)<\/p>\n<p>While study\u00ading in the <span class=\"caps\">US<\/span>, Velina col\u00adlab\u00ador\u00adated with Bul\u00adgari\u00adan artists and musi\u00adcians for the trans\u00adla\u00adtion of poetry for song lyr\u00adics and con\u00adtem\u00adpor\u00adary art exhib\u00adi\u00adtions. Dur\u00ading her gradu\u00adate stud\u00adies in the Neth\u00ader\u00adlands, she trans\u00adlated into Eng\u00adlish the film sub\u00adtitles of <em>Let\u00adter to Amer\u00adica <\/em>(Bul\u00adgaria, 2001) by dir\u00adect\u00ador Iglika Tri\u00adfonova, for its screen\u00ading at the <em>Noor\u00addelijk<\/em> Film Fest\u00adiv\u00adal in 2003, where it won the grand prize of the jury.<\/p>\n<p>Velina was selec\u00adted as a&nbsp;par\u00adti\u00adcipant in the Trans\u00adlat\u00adors\u2019 Atelier Work\u00adshop of the Eliza\u00adbeth Kostova Found\u00ada\u00adtion for three con\u00adsec\u00adut\u00adive years (2013, 2014 and 2015.)
